The same think applies for all runes. From what I know, the runes generally come from armours dropped from certain enemies (i.e. Dwarf Armour). The name of the item is in turquoise lettering also saying Unidentified. You then use the Identification Kit to identify it. It'll say "You've unlocked minor rune etc. You then have to salvage it with the "Expert" salvage kit with the chance of getting the rune. It is not a guarantee.

When you get a rune you want, you just put it on one of your armor pieces.

i think you have to identify them, and it will say "found rune" or something of that sort, im hoping someone who did more salvaging can answer this question fully.

you can only salvage runes from armor, be it foe armor or player armor. i do not think it is a requirement to identify it beforehand though. that unlocks it as a PvP upgrade. you need to use an expert salvage kit on the armor for a chance at recovering the rune.

Runes salvage from unidentified armors sometimes when you use expert salvage kits. I've found it's better to identify the armor first, as if there is a rune in the armor, you'll unlock it for your account. Salvaging the rune out seems to be about a 50% chance with an expert kit, and impossible with a basic salvage kit.

I identified 1st and then used an expert salvage kit. Whenever it found a rune I got it. Missed only one out of 8. Maybe luck.

Works similar for Weapon upgrades.

I id'd everything this past event, got more than enough "precious" items to pay for the id kit and then some.

I got all my minor runes, but even when I unlocked a major rune and used an expert salvage kit I didn't get a rune out of it...
